Home Maintenance Calendar Guide & Template

We have found having different types of calendars and checklists really helps keep our honey-do list focused on big projects and goals. Below we will share a Google Home Maintenance Calendar, a printable home checklist, and some types for using and creating your own home maintenance checklist.

Maintenance Calendar vs Maintenance Checklist

In theory, they are the exact same thing: a tool to help you complete your home maintenance tasks. The only difference is one is on your calendar and another a checklist on an app or piece of paper. We love checklists in fact this calendar came up as an idea as we were trying to redefine the honey-do list. The reason we prefer a maintenance calendar vs a checklist is because we generally don’t forget to look at our calendar, and we can set up reminders. We have learned calendars are great for routine and repetitive tasks. Having a calendar for home maintenance has helped up get more done, stay more organized, and reduced the time we spent planning out routine tasks.

How to create a Home Maintenance Calendar

You can have your maintenance calendar written on a physical calendar, a whiteboard, or even kept in your home management binder. We personally prefer Google calendars because of how easy it is to automate and overlay all of our other calendars. You can follow the steps below to create your own home maintenance calendar or download our Honey Do Home Maintenance Calendar on Google. If you do this you just need to add/remove some tasks and adapt the dates to a routine of your preference.

1)When creating a calendar you should brainstorm all of the home maintenance tasks you can think of on a word document or piece of paper. You can use our Home Maintenance Checklist as a guide

2) separate all of your tasks by frequency for example monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, and annually.

3) Place the tasks on your calendar

Tips when using a home maintenance Calendar

  • Break out Big Projects. For Example, Carpet Cleaning do one floor one week and the other floor the next.
  • Group Similar Tasks. Try and Group Tasks
  • Remember the Season. There are a lot of repairs you can make inside. Try and do them during the winter when you can’t do outdoor repairs.
  • Be Flexible. You never know what other events come up so how long a project will take. Make your calendar so you can easily move tasks around and they are not all on one day.

Along with an app, or online calendar we will eventually be adding a printable home maintenance schedule spreadsheet for you to download and put in your home management binder.
